The Deleted File Recovery Guide for Non-Geeks
The ProblemI deleted a file and I need it back - how can I recover it?
Summary: Most likely your file is still there and there are free programs that can recover it. First there are a few precautions you need to take. Stop using the storage device with the deleted file on it - by that I mean, if the deleted file is on your computer, stop using it. If it was on your camera, remove your camera card. If it was on a pen drive, do not put any more files on the pen drive.
Here is why: when a file is deleted the space it takes up is considered free space by the computer. Meaning that if you create a file it will most likely overwrite a previously deleted file, possibly the file that you are trying to recover. As ironic as it seems, simply installing recovery software can over write the very file you are trying to recover. How you undelete your file will depend on where it was stored. Take a look below, each step will explain how to recover a file from a different location.
